Relevance

The relevance of the project lies in the development of domestic agricultural machinery, the reduction of import dependency, the introduction of technologies adapted to climatic risks, and the need to provide scientifically substantiated solutions for sustainable potato production in the dry regions of Kazakhstan.

Goal

To develop and optimize an innovative potato-planting machine equipped with a roller-type working mechanism capable of operating effectively under soil-moisture deficit conditions in arid areas of Kazakhstan. The machine will form a ridge, cover it with film, and place potato tubers accurately in a single pass. This aim targets water-resource conservation, reduced water dependency, increased potato yield, and improved sustainability of agricultural production.

Expected Result

‒ Development of a prototype potato planter with a roller working mechanism and scientific optimization of its structural and technological parameters.

‒ Full integration of a rotary cultivator, fertilizer distributor, and film-laying mechanism into a multifunctional machine.

‒ Development of a moisture-saving technology for efficient soil-water utilization and validation of its agrotechnical effectiveness.

‒ Assessment of the impact of single-pass under-film potato planting on productivity in dry regions.

‒ Identification of optimal potato varieties and planting times depending on moisture conditions.

‒ Establishment of scientific foundations for soil–mechanism–tuber interaction using DEM simulations, field trials, and laboratory tests.

‒ Preparation of complete technical documentation, design drawings, and technical specifications for commercialization in domestic production.

‒ Preparation of two patent applications for registration in the National Institute of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

‒ Publication of at least two scientific articles in Web of Science (Q1–Q3) or Scopus (≥50 percentile) journals.

‒ Demonstration of economic efficiency through increased yield and reduced labor and fuel consumption.

Achieved Result

According to the schedule, the integration of the first and second parts of the integrated potato planter has been completed at this stage. The integration works were implemented on the basis of pre-developed CAD models, where the mounting units, kinematic connections and coupling parameters of the working mechanisms were clarified. The roller working mechanism and the hopper distribution unit are combined, their compatibility and synchronous operation when feeding tubers are ensured. The integration has improved the stability of the structure, the accuracy of tuberization and the overall consistency of the unit.

After the assembly of the unit, the operability of all functional units in a single complex was checked. During the tests, the following were evaluated:

– uniformity of tubers feeding by roller mechanism;

– synchronicity of operation with the hopper distributor;

– the correct functioning of the rotary cultivator, the comb shaper and the film coating mechanism;

– stability of the unit under load;

– stable operation at various speeds and modes.

The complex showed a high degree of readiness, the functioning of all nodes corresponded to the calculated parameters. The minor discrepancies found were eliminated on the spot.

Based on DEM simulations, the parameters of fertilizer distribution, the angle of the pipeline, the feed rate and the depth of application have been clarified. Algorithms for regulating dosing have been created, taking into account the speed of the unit and the physical properties of fertilizers.
