The closing of the Semey landfill is an important step towards peace!
1991 August 29y — a special day in the history of Kazakhstan. On this day, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was closed. This decision showed the world our great desire to maintain peace.
Today, students and teachers of Shakarim University took part in the event dedicated to the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, held on Peace Island. The gathered community laid flowers on the monument "Stronger than death..." as a tribute to the victims of the nuclear tests and remembered them in silence.
This is not only a commemoration, but also an important step on the way to transmit peace and the value of life to the next generation.
About 450 nuclear explosions made at the Semey test site caused irreparable environmental and social consequences for humanity. Landfill closure in 1991 became one of the famous events in the world. With this step, Kazakhstan revealed the importance of peaceful life to the whole world.
Shakarim University after the closure of the test site around which scientists spread deadly poison conducted extensive work on the study of the consequences of nuclear tests. Currently, scientists and students of the university are studying the environmental consequences of the landfill, its impact on health and ways to restore the environment.
