Relevance

Interest in organic meat production is growing in Kazakhstan; however, the behavioral and economic factors influencing farmers' transition to this system remain insufficiently studied. Therefore, assessing farmers’ readiness for organic production is an important and timely task.

Goal

Expected Result

1. Assessment of the current state of organic livestock farming in Kazakhstan:

2. A comprehensive analysis of the current state of organic livestock production will be conducted, including an evaluation of its potential, identification of constraints and unique advantages, taking into account geography, climate, pasture conditions, feed production resources, and other favorable factors.

3. Identification of factors influencing farmers' readiness and behavioral aspects related to organic livestock farming, including attitudes, social norms, and perceived behavioral control.

4. Identification of barriers and risks in the development of organic livestock farming:

5. Obstacles faced by entrepreneurs in Kazakhstan’s organic agriculture sector will be identified and assessed, including issues related to infrastructure, technology, certification, marketing, logistics, and legal regulations.

6. Development of a behavioral model of beef cattle producers during the transition to organic production, including an assessment of the impact of socio-economic and demographic factors on farmers’ intentions to adopt organic technologies.

7. Development of practical measures to stimulate the development of organic livestock farming:

8. Based on research findings, recommendations will be formulated to promote organic livestock farming in Kazakhstan, including government support, information campaigns, expansion of subsidies, and incentive mechanisms to encourage farmers to adopt organic production technologies.

Achieved Result

The factors influencing the willingness and behavioral aspects of farmers to engage in organic farming, including attitudes, social norms, and perceived control over behavior, are identified.

A study conducted in 2025 identified key components that determine farmers' behavioral attitudes towards the transition to organic production. It has been established that attitudes towards organic animal husbandry are influenced by the level of awareness about its advantages and requirements, perception of economic benefits and market prospects, as well as personal ideas about the quality of organic products and sustainable practices. Social norms play an important role, including the opinions of colleagues and neighboring farms, recommendations from industry associations and government agencies, as well as farmers' participation in educational events. An important component is perceived control over behavior, reflecting the availability of infrastructure, technology, and technical services, the availability of financial resources, subsidies, and loans, as well as the ability to receive advisory, veterinary, and service support. The analysis made it possible to describe the structure of behavioral factors and form primary recommendations aimed at increasing the motivation and willingness of farmers to implement organic technologies.

Barriers and risks in the development of organic animal husbandry have been identified: The obstacles faced by entrepreneurs in the organic farming sector in Kazakhstan, including challenges related to infrastructure, technology, certification, marketing, logistics, and legal regulations, were identified and assessed.

The article was published in journals from the first three quartiles of the impact factor in the Web of Science database or in journals with a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 50.
