We invite you to participate in the creative competition “If you want to become a journalist...”!

On February 24, 2026, the Department of Language Communication at Shakarim University is holding a traditional online competition of creative works “If you want to become a journalist...” under the educational program “6B03202 – Journalism, SMM and PR”, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the founding of SEMEI.

Students of grades 10–11 of secondary schools in the Abay region are invited to take part in the competition.

The purpose of the competition is to identify talented schoolchildren who show interest in journalism, to form students’ own position and worldview, to develop creative thinking and journalistic skills, as well as to provide career guidance support to applicants planning to enroll in the specialty “Journalism.”

The competition consists of two stages.

The first stage is the preparation of video material in the format of a news release as the host of the news program of the SEMEI TV channel. The work must necessarily reflect the relevance, efficiency, reliability and specificity of the information.

The second stage is the essay competition “Let my pen strive forward...”. The participant can choose one of the proposed topics:

“Being a journalist is my conscious choice”;

“If I became a journalist...”;

“The profession that I choose”;

“The path to the future”;

“The future begins with a spiritually strong generation”;

“Journalism in the era of TikTok: trend or threat?”

It is also allowed to propose your own author’s topic that corresponds to the general focus of the competition.

The competition is held in the Kazakh language. The winners are determined by a jury.

Summing up will take place on February 24 at 12:00 online on the Zoom platform.

As part of the event, editors and journalists of the SEMEI TV channel will take part in an online meeting on the topic: “SEMEI TV channel: from traditional format to digital innovations,” where they will share their professional experience and opinions.
