A wound in the memory of the nation: tribute was paid to the spirit of Shakarim

May 31 is the day to remember the victims of the most tragic periods in the history of Kazakhstan. This date is a special day that encourages us not to forget the sadness of the fate of millions who were affected by political persecution and famine, and revives our historical memory.

On this occasion, the team of Shakarim University laid flowers at the monument of the great thinker, poet, educator Shakarim Kudaiberdiuly and paid a minute's silence to the spirit of innocent victims.

Speaking at the meeting, university rector Duman Orynbekov emphasized the importance of preserving historical justice and reviving national memory.

- Remembering the victims of political persecution and famine is not just looking at the past, but deeply understanding the hard lessons of the nation's history. One of the victims of those dark years is Shakarim Kudaiberdiuly, whose name is given to our university. Although there were times when people tried to erase his name from the memory, his legacy of being a beacon of truth and spirituality has passed over time. Today, Shakarim's works have become the golden backbone of our national values,- said the rector.

In his speech, Duman Rymgalyuly emphasized the deep spiritual connection between May 31 and June 1 - International Children's Day. According to him, remembering the horrors of the past is necessary not only for the preservation of history, but also for such darkness to never happen again. And the basis of the free and educated society that the intellectuals of Alash longed for is the young generation growing up in a safe environment and receiving quality education.

During the event, candidate of historical sciences, professor Mukhtarbek Karimov discussed the nature of the Soviet totalitarian system and its consequences for the Kazakh society. Scientist Shakarim Kudaiberdiuly said that the fate of Kudaiberdiuly clearly reflects the reality of that era, and said that the work on the research of the poet's legacy continues.

Speaking during the event, the head of the Shakarimtanu research center at the university, Turdykul Shanbai, spoke about the systematic work of the management of the educational institution to revive the legacy of the great thinker. He said that the revival of the research center of Shakarim, whose activities were stopped at one point, and the publication of the magazine "Shakarim" were realized with the support of the rector of the university, Duman Rymgaliuly. He also said that the opening of the Shakarim Scientific Museum and the establishment of the "Shakarim" Kazakh-Chinese Cultural Research Center in China are important initiatives that paved the way for promoting the poet's heritage at the international level.

In his speech, he emphasized that the research and glorification of Shakarim's heritage is the historical and spiritual responsibility of the university team.

- As we are an educational center bearing the name of Shakarim, we are obliged to study his creativity and pass it on to the next generation. Shakarim is one of the people who suffered the worst consequences of political repression. Abuse of the great son of the nation is one of the most tragic pages in the history of our nation. Therefore, it is better to understand the work we are doing today not as a feat, but as our contribution to the restoration of historical justice, as our spiritual duty. Shakarim's heritage should be a common value not only for specialists in a certain field, but for the whole society. In this direction, we plan to hold master classes for students and young people together with the heads of the department. We also translated the poet's works into Chinese and started the work of introducing them to the international scientific circulation, - said Turdykul Shanbai.

History is not only the chronicle of the past, but also the direction of the future. The spiritual integrity of the nation is measured by the strength of historical memory. Therefore, commemorating the victims of political persecution and famine is not only a tribute to the past, but also an expression of responsibility towards future generations. By paying homage to the spirit of Shakarim, the university community once again clarified that justice, honor and spiritual continuity are eternal values.
