Address by the rector of Shakarim University Duman Orynbekov on the occasion of International Children's Day

Today, June 1, International Children's Day is celebrated all over the world. This day concerns not only families with children. It concerns every adult. Because the future generation is formed not only at home, but also at school, university, scientific environment, and in society as a whole.

The future of the country in ten, twenty and fifty years depends on what decisions are made today, what values are passed on to young people, what education they receive and what opportunities they see before them.

Today, child protection is not only issues of safety and social support. This is the right to quality education, the opportunity to develop abilities, gain knowledge, realize one’s talents and find one’s place in life, regardless of whether the child was born in a big city or a small village.

This day has a special meaning for the university. Although we work with young adults, any education system begins with a child. Therefore, International Children's Day is a reminder of who schools, colleges, universities, scientists, teachers and government institutions ultimately work for.

Today Kazakhstan relies on human capital, education, science and youth development. It is knowledge, professionalism and the ability to create new things that will determine the country’s competitiveness in the future. This means that caring for children is at the same time caring for the future of the state.

For the Abay region, this issue is of particular importance. The younger generation should see prospects in their native land, have the opportunity to receive a quality education, engage in science, realize their ideas and participate in the development of the region. That is why supporting children and youth remains one of the most important tasks of society.

I thank everyone who dedicated their lives to the education, upbringing and development of the younger generation. Every teacher, lecturer, scientist and university employee contributes to the future of the country through the knowledge that is passed on to young people.

I wish all children a happy childhood, good health, self-confidence and ample opportunities for development.

Let every child have the right to dream, learn, create and build their own future.

Happy International Children's Day!
