Updated sports complex
Shakarim University, which always pays special attention to innovation, creates comfortable conditions for students to study, as well as supports their health and promotes a healthy lifestyle, has again received good news. In the sports complex No. 1 of the educational institution, along with the grand opening of the traditional sports and athletics competition, the grand opening of a renovated swimming pool that meets modern requirements took place.
Considering that Semey has long been known as a “city of students,” this sports facility, created for the benefit of young people, is equipped with everything necessary.
Veteran teacher Anatoly Sidelnikov, who knows well the history of the formation of university, during the opening ceremony of the Spartakiad spoke about the history of the building where the pool is located. According to him, this sports complex was built 46 years ago through the joint efforts of students and city residents.
“In September 1980, a swimming pool was opened, city, regional, republican, and in 1982 even all-Union competitions were held in this complex. At that time it was the only physical education and sports complex in the region. Today, seeing the updated version, I am truly surprised. The renovation was carried out at a high level, and I am pleased with the new appearance of the complex,” the veteran shared his impressions.
The swimming pool, which had not been used for a long time due to various circumstances, underwent a major renovation in 2025 and was reopened, becoming a real New Year's gift for university students.
The total area of the pool is 14×25 meters. It has been updated in accordance with modern requirements and will continue to serve not only the university community, but also the city residents.
