Shakarim University has achieved high results in the world rankings
Shakarim University has demonstrated strong results in several areas in the prestigious international ranking THE Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, which evaluates the contribution of higher education institutions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
This annual ranking, published by Times Higher Education, evaluates not only the academic reputation and publication output of universities, but also their actual contribution to society, environmental protection and solving global problems. The evaluation criteria cover important areas such as poverty reduction, access to quality education, sustainable infrastructure, environmental protection and social responsibility.
This year, Shakarim University was represented in the ranking for 15 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. This indicates the university’s systematic implementation of the principles of sustainable development in its educational, research and management systems.
According to the results of the rating, the university took the following positions: in terms of “Quality Education” - 401–600 places among 1335 universities in the world; in “Ending Hunger” – 201–300 among 731 universities; in “Gender equality” – 401–600 place among 1095 universities; for “Partnerships for Sustainable Development” – 801–1000 place among 1610 universities in the world; and in “Decent work and economic growth” – 301–400 place among 1003 universities.
It should be noted that in terms of the “Quality Education” indicator within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, Shakarim University entered the top three among higher educational institutions in Kazakhstan, taking 3rd place. And among the universities that took part in the ranking in the republic, it entered the TOP 10.
The university’s indicators for other SDGs are as follows:

SDG 6 – Clean water and sanitation – 601+ places
SDG 7 – Affordable and clean energy – rank 401–600
SDG 10 – Reduced inequality – rank 601–800

SDG 12 – Responsible consumption and production – ranks 401–600
SDG 13 – Climate Action – ranks 401–600
SDG 15 – Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems – ranks 401–600
SDG 16 – Peace, justice and strong institutions – 801+ places
The international assessment system THE Sustainability Impact Ratings demonstrates that a university can be not only an educational center, but also an active participant in positive changes in the world.
The inclusion of Shakarim University in this ranking is international recognition of its work in developing quality education, supporting regional initiatives, working with vulnerable groups and modernizing infrastructure in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.
This result can be called the fruit of the systematic implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the main activities of the university - from scientific research to social projects, from effective resource management to international partnerships.
Recall that in 2025, Shakarim University was included for the first time in the global THE Sustainability Impact Ratings, which evaluates the contribution of higher education institutions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This year's indicators indicate that the university continues its work in this direction, strengthening its position and influence at the international level.
