The "Zhardem" printing house, which was first opened in Semey and made an immeasurable contribution to spirituality, was bought by the Kazakh regional committee of Semey after the February revolution in 1917 from the Tatar merchant brothers Nigmatullins with the help of wealthy Kazakhs of that time. According to scientists, this printing press, which works with the lithographic method, was brought from Tomsk in 1910. Newspapers, Tatar and Kazakh books are mainly published there. In particular, several literary works of Shakarim Kudaiberdiuly were published in 1912. The well-known poet scholar Kayim Mukhamedkhanov in his research work "Shakhkarim" noted: "Shakhkarim's poems from 1878 to 1904 were called "Kazakh mirror" (first part) and were published as a separate book in Semipalatinsk in 1912..."
Scientist Muktarbek Karimov elaborated on the history of the first printing house in Semipalatinsk. According to the professor, the "Zhardem" printing house, opened in Semipalatinsk, was the first publishing house that worked from the point of view of national interest. In the early 1900s, this publishing house, founded by the brothers Sultan, Sadyk, and Hasan Nygmatullin, published the first books, collections of poems, textbooks and literary works in the Kazakh language. The scientist emphasized that this publishing house not only published books, but directly served the awakening of national consciousness, the spread of enlightenment and democratic ideas. He said that the works published by the "Zhardem" publishing house were like a mirror of the attitude of the Kazakh intellectuals of that period towards the country's future, education and culture. Also, the scientist suggested to his colleagues to give the history of the press in Semipalatinsk as a topic for a dissertation article to graduate students studying at the university.
Historian-scientist Amantai Isin, talking about the significance of the "Zhardem" publishing house in Kazakh culture, assessed it as an outstanding phenomenon in the spirituality of Semipalatinsk at the beginning of the 20th century.
Madiyar, who visited Kazan twice already this year, said that the originals of many books published by the Kazan publishing house during Nasyrov's time and distributed in the Kazakh steppe are kept in the National Museum of Tatarstan and the National Library in Kazan.
And Aidar Gali-Arystanuly:
- "Zhardem" publishing house can be said to be the vanguard of Kazakh publishers who played a decisive role in the formation of Alash culture, Alash civilization and history in Kazakh history. Since 2000, we have taken up the modernization of the publishing house, which served to publish the works of Shakarim and the Lions of Alash. We have been working together with scientific centers, museums, educational institutions, libraries in Semipalatinsk, renewing the name of the publishing house. Currently, the magazine "Shakarim" published by the Scientific Center of Shakarim Studies, the works of scientists and young researchers of our region, books of poets-writers are published by the new publishing house "Zhardem". On the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the "Yardem" publishing house, we are planning to compile a scientific study on the past and present of the "Yardem" publishing house at the initiative of our brother Turdygul, the head of the Research Center of Shakarim Studies at Shakarim University.
