Engineering center and its scientific process
Shakarim University is a multidisciplinary higher education institution covering a variety of areas of science. Today the university maintains partnerships with 21 countries, actively exchanges experience and expands opportunities for advanced training of its scientists.
The work of laboratories where the structural components of various everyday objects are analyzed, and their strength and vulnerability are determined, is a special and fascinating world. One of these sites is the Engineering Center, located in the 10th building of the university.
There are several scientific installations here that allow testing metal at high temperatures and determining its hardness. 11 specialists studying in the university’s master’s program work with this equipment.
According to the head of the Engineering Center, Rinat Kusainov, the center’s specialists have established a partnership with the Ust-Kamenogorsk company MetPro Engineering Company LLP.
— Our center mainly conducts analysis of steel, processes of hardening the metal surface and obtaining protective coatings, as well as wear resistance tests. First, the metal is examined under a microscope and experimental tests are carried out. Then it is melted at temperatures up to 15 thousand degrees. In addition, changes in the properties of the material are carefully monitored using special instruments, notes R. Kusainov.
The engineering center, founded in 2022, is primarily engaged in research into the wear resistance of metal coatings. In particular, an examination of metal elements used in agricultural and mining equipment is carried out.
The structure of the center systematically organizes the work of several divisions: the laboratory “Plasma technologies for surface processing of materials”, the zone of cutting and mechanical processing of metal, the laboratory of materials science and electrolyte-plasma technologies, as well as the area of X-ray diffraction analysis.
