Duman Orynbekov: “Tolyk Adam” meets the needs of Kazakh society, the logic of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, marking both a cultural code and a vector for the future
Republican youth forum “Abaidyn Tolyk adam ilimі: Ulttyk kundylyktar men zamanaui kozkaras”, which opened within the walls of Shakarim University, began with a speech by the rector of the university Duman Orynbekov. His address became a conceptual guideline for the entire discussion, setting an agenda in which philosophy, education and responsibility are not separated, but form a single basis for development.
The rector recalled: a university founded on the land of Abay and bearing the name of Shakarim cannot be a neutral structure. This is a place where traditions become a living pillar. Here knowledge does not exist without responsibility, a mature conscience, and science does not exist without moral depth. This is exactly the model that Kazakhstan needs, especially in the regions where the country’s intellectual and spiritual potential is being formed.
- The Doctrine of a Full-Fledged Man is a work that takes its origins from oneself. Thoughts, actions, position - this is what a personality is built on, which you can rely on in a complex world. It is not declarations that make a society sustainable, but the inner core of everyone who lives in it, emphasized the rector, who also outlined the mission of the modern university to be not only a space of knowledge, but also an environment of growing up, where values are not imposed, but are lived. In this logic, development cannot be separated from meaning, and the quality of education cannot be separated from the maturity of students and teachers.
Among the key areas voiced by the rector of Shakarim University:
creation of the Center for Philosophy and Ethics of the Full-Fledged Person on the basis of the university;
implementation of the interdisciplinary module “Abai – Shakarim – Bugingi kun”;
launch of the grant program “Zhas Tulga”;
initiation of the international symposium “Mature personality in an era of change”;
development of the digital platform “Zhas Abay Zholy”, where young people can share research, projects and personal experiences.
Shakarim University, according to the rector, sets itself specific goals:
- prepare personnel who can think independently and act responsibly;
- create scientific products connected to the cultural code of the country;
- be an example for regional universities as a center of power.
The report became an open invitation to a national conversation about the role of universities in the education of a mature personality. It is in the land of Abai, where spirituality, work and education have always been a single field, that Shakarim University is forming a response to global challenges. This answer is in human development. In a system where knowledge is based on conscience, and the region becomes a source of both resources and meaning.
The forum clearly showed: the teaching “Tolyk Adam” meets the needs of Kazakh society, the logic of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (point IV - quality education). And, in fact, it marks both a cultural code and a vector of the future.
