Adilet Sugirbay, Doctor of Science, Professor at Shakarim University: “A new approach to science in the President’s Address – faith in scientists of the new generation”
The Presidential Address once again clearly shows that science is the basis of competitiveness, national security and the future of the country. For me, this is not just a political orientation, but the essence of my daily work.
In 2024, I won a grant from the Zhas Galym project. The theme of the project was “Development of an automated machine for planting potatoes in the arid regions of Kazakhstan.” Now we have built such a machine, conducted experiments with students and with five different varieties of potatoes at the Shakarim University agrobiological station. Our future goal is to try these experiments on other crop species. Now we are planting 32 varieties of potatoes brought from abroad, and we are seeing the results. Agronomists and students of our university participate in these experiments and express their support. We publish the results of experimental work in scientific journals included in the critical Scopus database. This is not an individual achievement, but an opportunity to show the world the scientific potential of the entire university.
At Shakarim University we have established a full cycle from organizing scientific research to international publications. This not only strengthens the position of our university in the global scientific community, but also promotes Kazakhstan as a competitive state in science.
We involve students in research work from an early age, conduct seminars, and analyze practical cases. The fact that 28 out of 83 works won prizes at the republican competition in 2024 is the result of this systematic work.
The President’s promotion of science as a factor of national development poses a new task for us: now every research should work not only for scientific interest, but also for the food, climate and technological security of the country. In my opinion, this is the main scientific emphasis of the Message.
