A new step in the development of sheep farming
"Selection Center of Sheep Breeding" has started its work at Shakarim University. This is one of the important scientific initiatives aimed at the development of animal husbandry in the north-eastern region of Kazakhstan.
The said center was opened within the framework of the purpose-oriented scientific project "Creating highly productive sheep populations based on the development of effective methods of selection and introduction of resource-saving technologies", which is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The laboratory located in the Agrotechnopark scientific center near Shakarim University is fully equipped with modern equipment.
The opening ceremony was attended by Duman Ospanov, the deputy akim of Abay region, Ertai Kuanbayev, the head of the regional department of agriculture, representatives of the Republican Chamber of the Kazakh breed of woolly sheep, as well as S. Scientists of Pavlodar State University named after Toraygyrov participated.
The main areas of activity of the new center are improvement of breeding methods in sheep breeding, conducting genetic research, selection of high-yielding breeds, organization of production tests and support for scientific research of young scientists. This initiative will strengthen the connection between science and industry and pave the way for increasing the efficiency of farms in the region.
The head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokaev said in a recent meeting with the community of scientists: "The pillar of any developed, advanced state is science, and its treasure is a scientist. "If we want to become a competitive country, first of all, we need to develop science and learn new technology." In this context, the new center is a vivid example of the manifestation of science in real production.
Rector of Shakarim University Duman Orynbekov spoke at the opening ceremony of the center:
"Today, with the support of the Ministry, more than 40 scientific projects are being implemented on the basis of Shakarim University. 70 percent of it is applied. The new center is the real result of this systematic work. This initiative will strengthen the economy of the region and become an important platform for combining science and agriculture.
Currently, scientific research is being conducted in 10 experimental farms in Abay, Akmola, East Kazakhstan, Pavlodar and North Kazakhstan regions. About 50 scientists, doctoral and master's students, as well as leading research institutes and partner universities of the country are involved in the project. As part of the project, 4 patents have already been obtained, and scientific articles have been published in the international Scopus and Web of Science databases. In addition, specific practical recommendations for farms have been developed.
The main goal of the center is to increase the genetic potential of sheep farming in the region, to improve product quality. Effective use of local and foreign breeds is planned in this direction.
According to Balnur Akhmetova, head of the Department of Agriculture, the center uses the most modern selection methods, and priority is given to improving the quality indicators of local sheep breeds.
It should be noted that in 1994, in the same region of Semipalatinsk, on the basis of the former zootechnical and animal husbandry institute, the Baiys type, which went down in history under the name "Bays sheep", was produced. The new center aims to continue this good tradition and raise domestic selection to a new level.
Thus, the selection center of sheep farming will give a new impetus to combining scientific achievements in the field of animal husbandry with production, increasing the efficiency of farms in the region and the development of domestic sheep farming. In addition, the content of scientific research conducted at the center is deep and complex. At the same time, Gulim Kamzaeva, a master's student of the educational program 7M08201 - "Technology of production of animal husbandry products", presented the progress of her research work. According to him, a complex of zootechnical, breeding and biometric methods was widely used during the research. The main productivity indicators of sheep - live weight, wool productivity and growth rate - were evaluated on the basis of generally accepted zootechnical methods.
The selection and mating of animals is carried out using selection and genetic methods, and based on hybridization methods, it is planned to improve the economic characteristics of various breeds. In addition, the external characteristics of animals are determined by special measurement and visual evaluation methods. Biometric processing was carried out on the obtained data, and variational statistics methods were used. These methods ensure the accuracy and scientific validity of research results.
Thus, it shows that the researches being carried out at the center are not only theoretical, but are aimed at results of real industrial significance. It will become one of the leading sites for carrying out scientific research and innovative projects.
