"Abai Science Fest": harmony of science, education and industry

The scientific festival "Abai Science Fest" organized on the basis of Shakarim University with the participation of the Akim of Abai region Berik Vali and the support of the Regional Entrepreneurship and Industrial-Innovative Development Department was a significant event that defined a new breath of science and innovation.

One of the important meetings that increased the content weight of the festival was the meeting of the governor of the region Berik Wali with young scientists. During the meeting, the role of science in the development of society, the development of regional scientific potential, and the support of young researchers were widely discussed. In his speech, the akim of the region noted that the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is paying special attention to the field of science and said that science should be turned into a driving force of the economy.

Akim emphasized that one of the most urgent problems in the region is the gap between education, science and economy. According to him, business does not find specialists, graduates are looking for work, and scientific projects do not reach production. In order to solve these problems, the regional comprehensive plan "Strong regional science is a powerful region" will be developed. Within the framework of this initiative, a specific system of selection, financing, commercialization, investment in science and implementation of applied scientific projects will be formed.

Also, as one of the important steps in the development of science, it became known that the "House of Scientists" will be built in the Smart City district in the northern part of Semey city.

"In order to develop the scientific potential of the region, we decided to build the "House of Scientists" in the Smart City district in the northern part of Semey city. In this center, laboratories, modern devices, infrastructures necessary for conducting scientific research in priority directions will be considered. I believe that it will allow young people engaged in science to engage in science and discover their potential. According to the head of the region, in the "House of Scientists" young scientists will have the opportunity to search freely, realize their good initiatives and expand the horizons of science. At the meeting, the issue of youth support was not overlooked. Akim of the region instructed the head of the city to consider the issue of introducing young scientists into the housing program "Youth of Abai". In addition, he said that mechanisms to support their initial contribution from the regional budget will be considered. This is a manifestation of real support for young people who have chosen the path of science.

During the meeting, it was said that special priority is being given to the development of agricultural science in the region. The mayor noted that the selection center for sheep farming was recently opened at Shakarim University and said that great trust is placed in the established scientific school of the university in the development of agriculture.

Leading scientific and educational organizations of the region participated in the exhibition of scientific projects. Among them are the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Shakarim University, Semey University of Medicine, Alikhan Bokeikhan University, Semey Branch of Kazakh Research Institute of Processing and Food Industry, Nuclear Technology Park and Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Center. Each institution presented its scientific achievements in its field and created an opportunity to exchange experience.

During the scientific exhibition at the festival, Shakarim University presented a number of its important scientific projects. In particular, the Agrosektor platform and Agrotechnopark presented innovative projects in the direction of agriculture, while the Shakarim Lab center presented research into the chemical composition of mail, environmental objects, and food products. And the Engineering Center presented projects on plasma processing of the surface layer of materials and electrolytic-plasma modification technologies. In addition, the Valorization Center offered biotechnological solutions aimed at increasing the value of lignocellulosic by-products. All these projects showed that university science is developing not only at the academic level, but also in the industrial direction.

Nurzhan Mukhamedov, the head of the reactor equipment assembly and testing department of the National Nuclear Center, reported on the ongoing international scientific work on the pulse research reactor. According to him, the safety of fourth-generation sodium-cooled reactors is being studied in cooperation with Japanese and French scientists. In addition, materials science laboratories are studying the strength of materials after reactor irradiation, and transition from highly enriched nuclear fuel to low-enriched uranium fuel is being carried out within the framework of joint projects with US scientists.

One of the projects that aroused the interest of the festival guests was JYREK-AI - "Development of innovative technology based on artificial intelligence for ECG analysis" presented by Sernad Kaliyev, a student of Semey University of Medicine.

Innovative technology based on artificial intelligence for the analysis of electrocardiogram results was highly appreciated as a modern solution aimed at improving the quality of medical diagnostics.

The main feature of the festival is the priority given to combining science with production needs. Because today's scientific innovation should become a real result and be reflected in production. Applied projects aimed at the demand of the regional economy were widely promoted at the festival organized for this purpose. This, in turn, contributes to the formation of a scientific ecosystem in the Abay region, the development of innovative initiatives and the opening of the way to technological progress.
